Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Prince George Sex Assault: Boy Recovering After 6 Arrests Made

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - A male youth remains in a northern B.C. hospital and six people, including two females, are in custody in what police are calling a "horrific" and "disturbing" case of sexual and aggravated assault.

RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said Thursday night senior officers with more than 20 years of experience are describing it as one of the worst such cases they have seen involving youth.

Acting on an anonymous tip, police, paramedics and firefighters found the male in a snowbank behind an apartment building Monday night.

He is now in serious but stable condition in hospital.

"Definitely unusual, definitely disturbing, definitely something that we are not accustomed to seeing, and I guess we'll just have to wait though the court proceedings and see how that goes," he said.

Douglass said police also found a second male youth who was found to be the victim of an assault.

An 18-year-old male, a 20-year-old female, three male youths and one female youth remain in custody, and Douglass said one of the suspects is expected to appear in court Friday morning.

The public is not at risk, he added, because the arrests were made quickly and after the execution of five search warrants on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Douglass said police have determined the victims were targeted and lured to the apartment but they are providing few other details.

"Those details will come out in court," Douglass said.

The officer said dozens of police officers have been involved in the investigation.
