Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Kraft Heinz Shuts Down 7 Factories In U.S. And Canada, Shedding 2,600 Jobs

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Kraft Heinz says it will close seven factories in the U.S. and Canada over the next two years as part of a downsizing that will shed 2,600 jobs.

The company announced Wednesday it will close manufacturing facilities in Fullerton and San Leandro, California; Federalsburg, Maryland; St. Marys, Ontario, Canada; Campbell, New York; Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; and Madison, Wisconsin. The closures will occur in the next 12 to 24 months.

In addition, the company said it would close its existing meat processing plant in Davenport, Iowa, and move production to a new state-of-the-art plant to be built several miles away.

Kraft Heinz formed from the merger of Kraft and Heinz earlier this year. The new company announced in August that 2,500 non-factory jobs would be cut following the merger.
